Life in Laconia

Being handed the reigns is one of the best gifts you can be given as a designer. To cultivate enough trust that your client tells you, “take this project and run with it” is an incredible feeling. And that is exactly what we experienced in Laconia.

We were lucky enough to work with a wonderful family of 5. Their warmth, friendliness, and belief in the Kelly Mcguill Home vision created an incredible work environment . When we met, we learned they had recently purchased a large home in Laconia New Hampshire that they felt needed updating. What we found was that the house, while in a beautiful location, was a little stuck in another age. The chance to modernize it was incredibly exciting to us.

Walking through this space for the first time we could see so much potential underneath the outdated structure. When our clients told us they were ready to have us do a complete home update and design build we were over the moon!

The full renovation included the exterior of the house, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, the kitchen, living room, mudroom, great room, and full basement. We had a "go big or go home" mentality for the interior, and fully replaced all of the flooring with gorgeous hardwood. We also replaced every window and door throughout, to ensure natural light and amazing flow.

This project started in January of 2020 and our clients requested a 6 month turnaround. The world of design doesn’t always respect these kinds of deadlines, but we knew how important it was to our clients to have this project done by July 1st, so we got right to work.

With our clients full trust, we were able to dive in and re-imagine their space. Our goal was to pull it out of the past into the present, all the while giving it a timeless feel. Giving every detail the attention it deserved, we worked to curate an exceptional flow throughout the house that it was lacking before.

A few of our favorite changes were incorporating white walls throughout to brighten the space as well as adding windows to allow natural light to flow in!

The biggest challenges came during March of 2020 when COVID 19 completely changed the way we worked, and really, how the entire world operated. We had to push through these challenges to make sure the July deadline was top of mind, that the quality of each room did not suffer, and that we were keeping health and safety a priority.

Through it all, we remained positive and dedicated to this project, accomplishing all the goals we set out for ourselves, and for the space. Despite the challenges COVID presented, our clients were supportive, our sub contractors provided incredible work, we were able to source beautiful materials, and we managed to do it all within our 6 month deadline.

It’s one we’ll never forget!

It's called the great room for a reason!
